Radical Operation for Chronic Osteomyelitis

Abstract
A clinical review and radical operation were done on 25 patients with chronic osteomyelitis, ho were admitted to 1st ROK Army hospital during the period from May 1962, to August 1964.
"The results were as follows
1. Of the 25 osteomyelitis patients, 17 cases- were hematogenous, 3 cases open-fractures, and the remaining 5 cases post-operative infection.
2. Most of the 20 strains cultured had coagulase positive hemolytic staphylococcus aureus, and also had a high resistance against penicillin.
3. In most cases femur and tibia were found involved.
4. Operative procedures consist of 1) removal of lesion, 2) Saucerization, 3) filling the death space with autogenous tissue (bone or muscle).
5. Results of radical operation : 17 cases (76%) showed primary healing and 2 cases (8%)delayd healing, but remaining 4 cases(16%) were recurred.
6. Recurrence were treated by re-operation but it took quite a long time.
